Filmmaker Juan Mora Catlett brings to life the 16th-century legend of Erendira (Xochiquetzal Rodríguez), a brave young Mexican woman who defies expectations by battling the invading Spanish conquistadors to protect her people -- the Purépecha -- and their homeland. Born into a tribe that forbids women from fighting wars, Erendira blazes her own trail and inspires the Purépecha in their battle against the Spaniards.
